Mississippi State football fans cannot believe that Coleman Hutzler is still employed

State fans are shocked this guy still has a job, and I can't say I blame them.

Mississippi State football fans are fed up. They're fed up with the on-field results they've had to endure. They're fed up with the inability to recruit at a high level. And they're fed up with their coaching staff. More specifically, they're fed up and, frankly, at a loss that a change hasn't been made to the coaching staff.

Mississippi State fans were appalled that Coleman Hutzler wasn't fired immediately after the season

Following a season-ending loss in the Egg Bowl, State fans started to wait. What were they waiting for? The news that MSU defensive coordinator Coleman Hutzler had been fired. After such an abysmal season, particularly on defense, many took it as a foregone conclusion that Hutzler would be out.

But as the hours following the Egg Bowl started to turn into days, fans become all the more stunned that a change hadn't been made.

It's not necessarily a total shock considering the rumor mill for the past few weeks had been that Jeff Lebby had no intentions of making any changes to his coaching staff, but many were holding out hope that Lebby would surely understand a change was necessary and make it, if for no other reason than to get some goodwill from the fanbase.

Well, it seems that isn't happening, much to the dismay of Bulldog fans. At this point, fans are pleading for anything to get Coleman Hutzler out of Starkville. After Auburn AD John Cohen poached soccer coach James Armstrong from MSU, some are asking if Cohen is looking to steal another MSU coach...

I guess if Jeff Lebby refuses to fire him, then the only hope is for someone to take him off Mississippi State's hands.

After an ugly Signing Day, the cries to fire Hutzler have only gotten louder

If Coleman Hutzler and the Mississippi State defensive staff were going to do anything to start getting people somewhat on-board with their return, it was going to have to be in recruiting. They were going to need to show that they would make serious upgrades to the talent level on that side of the ball.

If the argument is that the lack of talent on defense was the only reason the defense was so horrific, well then you better show everyone that you can fix that issue.

Unfortunately, National Signing Day did not go as planned on the defensive side of the ball. State lost two of their best commits on defense, a pair of players who would've made immediate impacts next season. It started Wednesday morning when defensive end Zavion Hardy, the nation's top-ranked JUCO prospect, flipped to South Carolina.

That got the backlash going early...

Then Wednesday afternoon, things went from bad to worse when 4-star linebacker Tyler Lockhart flipped to rival Ole Miss. After this happened, fans were basically ready to revolt.

It's gotten so ugly for Hutzler on social media that some fans are suggesting playing drinking games for how often you read the words "Fire Hutzler". I would not recommend that...

Patience is gone from Mississippi State fans. When you lose 10 games in a season fielding one of the very worst defenses in the country and then have to watch two of your most important defensive recruits flip on Signing Day to other SEC programs, you're not going to give much grace if any. And the vast majority of State fans are not giving any.

And now, fans have growing concerns about the future of the program. Jeff Lebby is starting to lose a lot of support amongst the fanbase after the season he turned in and his decision to not make any changes. If things continue trending in the current direction, he's going to lose them for good. And with no support, digging out of the hole they're already in is going to be even tougher.

And you're already seeing fans declare that they're done supporting the program is changes aren't made. There's a growing sentiment that if MSU isn't going to make the moves necessary to be the best program they can be, then there's no reason for fans to give financially and come to games.

It's not a fun time to be a Mississippi State football fan, and it seems that as long as Coleman Hutzler is employed as the Bulldogs' defensive coordinator, anger will only increase amongst the fanbase until they reach a point of total apathy. It's safe to say that if Jeff Lebby isn't going to make any staffing changes, he's going to need to create some serious momentum elsewhere to get people bought in.

Update: Tyler Lockhart has officially signed with Mississippi State despite seemingly signing with Ole Miss
