Former Mississippi State Bulldog Dak Prescott made history Sunday in Dallas. The star quarterback of the Cowboys set a franchise record for passing yards during Dallas' rivalry win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He moved past Tony Romo as the Cowboys' all-time passing leader with 34,378 yards as the franchise QB.

It's the second franchise record the former Bulldog has set in Dallas this season, having surpassed Troy Aikman for career completions earlier in the year. Prescott entered Sunday's matchup 160 yards away from the passing yardage record, and he would easily surpass that, posting a huge day through the air to lift Dallas past the Eagles. Prescott completed 23 of 36 passes for 354 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also rushed for a score.
And most importantly, he orchestrated a huge comeback victory. The Cowboys got off to a rough start, trailing the Eagles 21-0 early in the second quarter. Dak Prescott would lead a scoring drive just before the half to cut the deficit to 14, and that momentum carried over in the second half.
Dak and Dallas would dominate the rest of the way, tying the game early in the fourth quarter. With the game on the line in the final minutes, Prescott would drive the Cowboys into field goal range. Dallas would convert on the winning kick as time expired and get revenge on their heated rivals over their heartbreaking loss to Philadelphia to open the season.
Dak Prescott having MVP-caliber season for Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott is having one of the very best seasons of his career. His 69.3% completion percentage is the best of his career. He's third in the NFL in passing yards at 2,941 and also ranks third with 25 total touchdowns. He's leading a Dallas offense that leads the league in yards per game (387.3) and is fourth in points per game (29.1).
And he's doing this while having the carry a heavy load. The Dallas defense is statistically one of the NFL's worst, allowing 28.5 PPG. Dak has had to play at an elite level to even give them a chance. He's the reason that the Cowboys have any sort of playoff hopes at this point in the season.
At 5-5-1, they're going to need an impressive finish to get into the playoffs. But if they do that, it'll be on the back of Dak Prescott. If Prescott can get this Dallas team into the postseason, he would absolutely be worthy of MVP consideration.
