National Signing Day is always an adventure for Mississippi State football. So often over the years, it's felt like the Bulldogs have had to hold on for dear life going into Signing Day, and that often includes having to fend off Ole Miss from spoiling the party with a last-minute flip. Things are no different this time around, and MSU managed to hold strong against the Rebels latest attempt at stealing from the Bulldog class.
#1 rated JUCO offensive tackle Saquon Miles signs with Mississippi State
Mississippi State landed a much needed prospect on Wednesday with the signing of JUCO offensive tackle Saquon Miles. The 6-6, 300 lineman from Hinds Community College is the top-ranked JUCO offensive tackle in the country as an 87-overall 3-star according to 247 Sports.
Saquon Miles was originally committed to Troy, but during the season, power conference programs, including the likes of Georgia, Auburn, and Colorado, began showing him serious interest. Mississippi State and Ole Miss were the first SEC programs to offer Miles, and the race was seen as being between those two.
In late November, it looked like the Bulldogs had won, with Miles announcing his commitment to MSU. But the battle was far from over. Over the last few days, and even final few hours, the Rebels made a massive push to flip Miles away from State, to the point that many around the Ole Miss program believed they would succeed in doing so.
Thankfully, the Bulldogs managed to withstand that surge from Ole Miss and hold onto Saquon Miles. Now that pen is to paper, Mississippi State fans and coaches can breath a huge sigh of relief.
Saquon Miles could immediately help out the Bulldogs in 2025
Saquon Miles is a crucial signee for Mississippi State football. Offensive line was a weak spot for the Bulldogs this season with their being a lack of true SEC talent or depth. Miles is a big piece in addressing that issue, and he'll have the opportunity to contribute right away in Starkville.
As of right now, State will return all of their starters up front but center Ethan Miner. But neither offensive tackle spot was particularly strong in 2024, which means Miles will have the chance to battle for a starting role going into 2025.
