While Jeff Lebby continues to build his first Mississippi State football coaching staff, David Turner will continue to play a key role for the Bulldogs.

It looks like Jeff Lebby’s first staff is coming together pretty nicely. The first time head coach has decided to ensure that David Turner sticks around in Starkville with the Mississippi State football team for the foreseeable future.

That’s right, folks who are fans of his recruiting skills and ability to build solid defensive lines in Starkville will love that Turner is officially joining on with Lebby’s staff.

Proponents of this staff decision will point to Turner’s extensive experience in the Southeastern Conference and his success in building defensive line for the Bulldogs from 2007 to 2009, then again from 2013 to 2015, and now currently from 2023 to present.

This is a coaching staff move that was expected, rumored, and then reported, and now the Mississippi State football program confirmed the move with its own official press release and post on X (previously Tweet on Twitter).

Turner’s addition to this staff should help Lebby and the Bulldogs continue to recruit well in the state of Mississippi. While Lebby’s hire and the hiring of several other staff members won’t limit the Bulldogs to just recruiting in Mississippi (shoutout to developing recruiting connections in large, talent-rich states like Texas and Florida), it’s still important to recruit in-state.

There’s a ton of talent that can be developed within the Magnolia State and it’s a good idea for Mississippi State to continue to bring as much of that talent to Starkville as it possibly can.

So, Turner’s experience coaching in the South, and building incredibly dominant defensive fronts for the Bulldogs in the past, should come in handy for Lebby in his first time coaching.
