The Mississippi State football team will be keeping David Turner around the help Jeff Lebby build the Bulldogs going forward.

Jeff Lebby is still building his first Mississippi State football coaching staff and he’s looking to elevate the Bulldogs as MSU moves forward. While that has involved some drastic changes at various places all over the coaching staff (many of which were certainly unsurprising), Lebby is choosing to keep David Turner on his staff in Starkville.

Mississippi State football fans are more than familiar with Turner, who has been a longstanding presence in the state of Mississippi. He’s currently in the midst of his third stint in Starkville as he was involved in leading the Bulldogs’ defensive lines from 2007 to 2009 and then again from 2013 to 2015.

Zach Arnett brought Turner back to Starkville to help round out his coaching staff and now it’s clear that Lebby has ensured Turner is sticking around the MSU Bulldogs for a while longer.

It’ll be fascinating to see how things unfold with the remainder of Lebby’s coaching staff. So far, Lebby hasn’t exactly kept many folks from the previous group of coaches (Chad Bumphis, like Turner, is also still around).

But Lebby also hasn’t brought in a ton of folks just yet.

MSU’s new head coach did bring in a couple of younger guys on the offensive side of things (Jon Cooper and Matt Holecek at offensive line and quarterbacks respectively).

That said, it’s still early and Lebby has made some moves already, they’re just not as prominent as some expected. But it’s worth remembering that both Cooper and Holecek are on the upswing of their respective careers and have also gotten plenty of experience working with Lebby and his offensive system.

But while they’re young, Turner brings plenty of experience and a veteran presence to this coaching staff. That’s not a bad thing to have around in Starkville.
