As the Mississippi State football program moves on to the Jeff Lebby era, it seems like Cole Cubelic is pretty happy with the hire the Bulldogs made.

The Mississippi State football program is jumping into a new era and Zac Selmon chose Jeff Lebby to lead the Bulldogs. While there are a number of questions about that selection for a number of different reasons, it’s clear that the Bulldogs will entrust their football future to the first time head coach.

You can’t really change that at this point.

But, while there are a number of questions about how this program will operate and how it will look from an organizational standpoint, there are some who believe this hire happens to be a good one for MSU.

And it sure seems like Cole Cubelic is pretty impressed with this choice by Selmon and the Bulldogs. In a recent YouTube video, the college football analyst expressed some noteworthy enthusiasm about Lebby’s hiring for the Bulldogs..

Cubelic, who is a former Auburn Tigers offensive lineman, believes Lebby possess the sort of brilliant offensive mind who can bring excitement and success to Starkville.

Mississippi State football: Cole Cubelic impressed with Jeff Lebby hire for MSU Bulldogs

“I like Jeff Lebby, I’m a Jeff Lebby fan,” Cubelic explained “I think he’s a brilliant offensive mind. He’s got a lot of experience in the SEC, and he’s been successful everywhere he’s been.”

Cubelic also noted that Lebby’s time in the SEC should bode well for the Bulldogs and that it’s very possible Lebby’s approach will help MSU build a roster that can thrive with the offense that he’s bringing to town.

“He’s going to get quarterbacks and receivers in that offense. They’re going to want to put up the numbers, they’re going to want to play in it. He’ll get that done. I’m interested to see where he goes defensively on his staff but he’ll bring some excitement,” Cubelic said.

Overall, the former Auburn lineman seemed pretty optimistic about the direction the program can go with Lebby’s leadership.

“He’s a brilliant offensive mind. You can look at his track record and see that, I know he’s a first-time head coach, but I do think his network will allow [Lebby] to put a good staff together,” Cubelic explained.

It’ll be interesting to see how this hire plays out. Cubelic is right in pointing out that Lebby’s SEC experience should help the Bulldogs on the recruiting front and the explosive and fun offense he brings with him should also make things fun in Starkville once more.

Again, Lebby is a first time head coach and there are plenty of reasons to be wary about exactly how this will all play out in the long run.

But maybe there won’t be any issues at all? We can hope.
