MSU dominated the glass in impressive fashion

Look, I know there’s a talent differential that exists between these two teams, but it is remarkable the way Mississippi State was able to utterly dominate the rebounding battle. The Bulldogs outrebounded Nicholls by an impressive margin of 48-29, which set the Mississippi State basketball team up for a lot of success.

Jimmy Bell Jr., who has been solid so far to start the season, really impressed as he led the Bulldogs with 10 rebounds. But, it’s worth noting that Cameron Matthews and Trey Fort each had seven rebounds of their own.

If the Bulldogs can rebound like this throughout the season, they’re poised for success this year.

Mississippi State was able to use its depth to beat Nicholls

The Bulldogs were able to really rely on a number of different contributors in this game. While only three Mississippi State basketball players scored in double digits, the fact that MSU didn’t really miss a beat despite still missing Tolu Smith due to injury is an impressive feat.

The Bulldogs, now 6-0, had 10 players see double digits worth of minutes of playing time against the Colonels. And that includes KeShawn Murphy, who was back from injury. With Murphy returning (and hopefully returning to 100 percent sooner rather than later), maybe we’ll get to see him play an even greater role going forward.

With Murphy back and guys like Bell, Matthews, and Josh Hubbard all scoring in double digits, MSU fans should feel optimistic about how good this season can be. The Bulldogs continue to prove they can grind out wins, even when they’re not shooting well. That’s a good sign.
