Rockey Felker nearly takes the cake as the worst head coach in Mississippi State history, but his 21-34 overall record from 1986-90 is slightly better than the coach who took the top spot. Felker went 5-28 in SEC play over his five-year tenure in Starkville, an abysmal .152 win percentage.
Mississippi State has had two seasons in its history with double-digit losses and Felker was responsible for the first, in 1988. It was his third season at the helm and he was allowed to hang around for an additional two years after that debacle.
Felker’s best year was his 6-5 campaign in his first season. He gets even less credit for that one because he did not build the roster that won those six games. Also, only two of the six wins came in conference play.
