GJ Kinne

You want an innovative offense that is on the forefront of how college football operates today and you also want to run the ball a bit? Are you interested in someone who can recruit through both the transfer portal and talent-rich Texas high schools? How about someone who can immediately win with one of the most difficult jobs in the country and overachieve with talent that others have overlooked?

Meet GJ Kinne, who would probably be my top pick for this job right now.

Kinne has the same amount of head coaching experience as Rhett Lashlee and is a good bit younger. He’s also someone who has already demonstrated that he can win in two different jobs.

Plus, it’s worth noting that the 34-year-old head coach is likely someone who could be hired at a relatively affordable rate, meaning boosters could put more funds towards NIL funds, making recruiting even easier for the Bulldogs.

Kinne’s offense is able to allow a dual threat quarterback with a talent for throwing deep to succeed. Oh, and it wouldn’t totally endanger their health in the process. So, for example, Chris Parson, who is an Air Raid guy with the ability to move and scoot out of danger when needed, would probably have a lot of fun playing in Kinne’s offense.

Plus, Texas State has a 1,000+ yard rusher this season! MSU fans are complaining all the time about the Bulldogs not running the ball enough, Kinne could deliver that sort of fun right to you.

Pros

  • Fascinating and innovative offensive mind
  • Demonstrated ability to go through the transfer portal
  • Very quickly found success in a difficult job at Texas State

Cons

  • We haven’t seen him sustain success
  • No SEC ties
  • He’s unproven at a high level

What’s great about Kinne is that he is someone who would be an unconventional hire for Mississippi State football. And while that likely concerns large portions of Mississippi State’s fanbase, it’s worth noting that the conventional moves MSU historically makes with regards to football rarely work out.

So, maybe, for once, let’s try going in a completely different direction?
