Wyoming at UNLV

Friday, 9:45 PM CT on FS1

Y’all know how this goes. I rep Wyoming. I rep the Mountain West. So of course this game is included. But this is legitimately one of the higher stakes Group of Five games of the weekend!

Wyoming’s hopes of playing for the Mountain West title took a big hit with their blowout loss to Boise State a few weeks back. They’re still alive, but they need to win out to have a chance. Partially because they really can’t afford another lose, but also because that would mean gaining a crucial head-to-head win over a UNLV squad that’s also firmly in the title picture.

UNLV took their first conference loss two weeks ago to fellow-contender Fresno State (it’s crowded at the top of the Mountain West), but they bounced back easily last week against New Mexico. Between Wyoming, conference-leading Air Force, and a sneaky solid San Jose State team, the Rebels have one of the tougher final stretches of any of the league’s contenders.

This an interesting clash of styles between two teams that both want to run the ball as their offensive identity, but go about it in different ways. Wyoming wants to slow the game down and grind you out with power runs. UNLV wants to push the tempo with a spread option attack.

This will be a fun matchup to lead you into the weekend.
