UTSA at North Texas

2:00 PM CT on ESPN+

We start in the American between a pair of former Conference USA rivals in the Lonestar State. Both UTSA and North Texas made move to the AAC this year after several years in the C-USA. The Roadrunners came in with high expectations right away for 2023 after Jeff Traylor having the program rolling. And the Mean Green wanted to lay a foundation under first-year HC Eric Morris as that program looks to finally build towards its potential.

We’ve discussed UTSA a few times this season. They got off to a slow start to the year with start QB Frank Harris dealing with injuries. But since Harris returned, they’ve won 4-straight while scoring nearly 42 a game. In conference games, Harris has completed 69% of his passes for 291 yards per game with 11 TDs and three INTs.

But he’s not the only QB in this game putting up gaudy numbers. UNT’s Chandler Rogers took over as the Mean Green’s starter in Week 3, and since that point, their Air Raid attack has been rolling. He’s averaged 327 passing yards as a starter and has 19 TDs to just one INT on the season. He’s coming off his best game of the season, throwing for 411 yards and five TDs against Memphis.

North Texas has underwhelmed record wise at just 3-5. But their recent losses to Tulane and Memphis, two really good teams, were down to the wire. And they’ve mostly played shootouts this year, which means the entertainment value is there. These are two really good offenses, and we’ll see lots of points here.
