2014 Orange Bowl: Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Okay, so, the magical 2014 Mississippi State football season didn’t exactly end in the way that Miss. State football fans wanted, but that doesn’t mean the Bulldogs didn’t have some incredibly great moments.
And while the Orange Bowl was a bit of a disaster on the defensive side of things, Dak Prescott continued to show just how incredible he was on December 31, 2014.
A 10-win Mississippi State team had the misfortune of being matched up with a really good Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets team and they, at the time, operated a really mean triple option attack that was hard to plan for.
And whether or not MSU’s defense actually planned for that? I don’t know. The Bulldogs looked lost on defense and Georgia Tech ran for an astonishing 452 yards.
It didn’t seem to matter how great Dak Prescott was as he threw for 453 yards and generated exactly 500 total yards of offense. Georgia Tech just kept making its way into the end zone time and time again.
Tech controlled the clock, winning big in the time of possession battle, and exhausted MSU’s defense in the process. State had a couple turnovers and committed a few more penalties and ultimately fell short, losing 49-34.
Mississippi State finished with 10 wins and Prescott had an incredible year, but the Bulldogs’ inability to slow Tech’s potent triple option ultimately doomed the MSU football team in this one.
