College football schedule week 4: App State at Wyoming

6:00 PM CT on CBS Sports Network

If you’re a fan of running the dang ball, this game is for you. Wyoming football is an ideal fit for their home state. They play a throwback style of football in a part of the country that embraces a throwback style of life. They Cowboys are old school. Their offense built around a power rushing attack played at a slow tempo and force opposing teams to fight for every yard with their defense.

App State has somewhat of a similar approach. They open things up quite a bit more on offense (while Wyoming actively looks to avoid the forward pass), but they’re still a run heavy team. They’re averaging over 200 yards per game, and RB Nate Noel has already racked up 454 rushing yards through three games.

Wyoming has their fans believing this may finally be the season they breakthrough and win a long awaited Mountain West title. They pulled off a stunning upset of Texas Tech in Week 1, and last week, they were tied 10-10 with Texas going into the fourth quarter. They have one of the Mountain West’s best defenses, and if their offense can find some consistency, a big season could happen.

App State’s offense has been lighting up so far, and they took North Carolina to overtime for the second-straight year. But they haven’t faced a defense as good as Wyoming’s yet, and their own defense has been less than stellar so far. Laramie is a tough place to play, and it should be a great atmosphere for a game between evenly matched teams.
