Syracuse at Purdue

6:30 PM CT on NBC

Let’s look at another ACC-Big Ten matchup. These teams played an insane game (or at least insane final quarter) in the stadium formerly known as the Carrier Dome last season, and this weekend’s meeting could also deliver on excitement.

Last year this game was a snooze-fest through three quarters with Syracuse leading the Boilermakers 10-9. But something flipped the switch in the fourth quarter with 42 combined points being scored in the final 15 minutes.

Purdue scored a touchdown with 51 seconds left to take a 29-25 lead. But a pair of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties backed them off on the ensuing kickoff, and the ‘Cuse got the ball at the 50. Then we get this incredible sequence from former Mississippi State QB Garrett Shrader…

Incomplete pass, incomplete pass, incomplete pass but defensive holding for the first down.

Incomplete pass, incomplete pass, incomplete pass but pass interference for the first down.

Pass complete 25 yards for a touchdown with seven seconds left.

After perhaps the most hysterical game winning drive of all time, Syracuse wins 32-29. If this game is anything like that one, you’ll want to be watching.

The Orange are off to a fast start to the season, winning their first two games 65-0 and 48-7. But those games came against Colgate and Western Michigan, so we still don’t know how good they actually are. But Shrader has been awesome so far.

Purdue is a very different team from last year. After HC Jeff Brohm left for Louisville, much of the roster flipped over. Former Illinois DC Ryan Walters is now the head man in West Lafayette, and he brought in former Mike Leach QB Graham Harrell as his OC to keep a pass happy scheme in place. Former Texas QB Hudson Card transferred in to lead the way. They’re 1-1, having lost a shootout at home to Fresno State to open the year and then winning at Virginia Tech.

This is a good QB matchup between a pair of teams that are pretty even talent wise. This should be a fun game.
