To complete the first quarter of the 2023 Mississippi State football schedule, Zach Arnett and the Bulldogs will face the South Carolina Gamecocks.

For the fourth game of the 2023 Mississippi State football schedule, Zach Arnett and the Mississippi State Bulldogs will hit the road for an SEC showdown against the South Carolina Gamecocks on September 23.

And that crucial conference matchup falls right in the midst of an interesting time for Arnett and the Bulldogs.

This road trip comes a week after MSU hosts Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers in Starkville and then a week before the Bulldogs return home to face Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide. It’s sandwiched between two tough contests!

That’s not fun!

This September meeting between the Mississippi State football program and the South Carolina Gamecocks is the first SEC road test of the year for the Bulldogs (and one of just four road games for MSU this season).

It’ll be a pretty good test for both the Bulldogs and the Gamecocks.

Like most middle class SEC teams, Shane Beamer and his South Carolina program are looking to take a step forward as they fight for relevance and try to shock some folks in the SEC East standings.

Of course, meanwhile, Mississippi State is trying to build upon the foundation that Mike Leach established as Arnett leads the Bulldogs forward. It remains to be seen how that’ll play out, but there are a ton of new pieces involved as State moves forward. Getting a road win over a respectable SEC program that beat both Tennessee and Clemson last season would be a great way to show the rest of the SEC that Arnett means business.

And here’s to hoping that that’s exactly what happens.
