Mississippi State football: Jeffery Simmons to host free football camp in Starkville
By Ethan Lee
Starkville is welcoming Mississippi State football great Jeffery Simmons back to town for a free football camp for kids. Here’s what you need to know.
Jeffery Simmons is leaving Nashville for a brief moment for some fun in Mississippi. The Mississippi State football great is headed back to Mississippi’s College Town as he gets set to host a free football camp with the good folks back in Starkville.
Simmons took to Facebook to promote the event and in his Facebook post, he noted that the camp has “lot of guests coming in to join [it] this year.”
On the event page itself, Simmons highlights that he has, in years past, “hosted successful football camp, inspiring and teaching young athletes key skills and values needed for success on and off the field.”
And now he’s bringing that to Starkville.

While it appears as if there was a tier of tickets available at one point for an exclusive experience, this event still appears to be free and open for all sorts of athletes and kids to come out and showcase their skills but also have a ton of fun playing football in the process.
This camp has the potential to be a great community building event and is open for folks in Starkville (and those in neighboring communities who would like to travel a little bit). It’s encouraging to see a former Mississippi State football great head back to Starkville for a bit and spend intentional time with kids there.
And it’s not just that Simmons was only successful during his college football days. It should be noted that he’s still continuing to dominate and terrify opposing quarterbacks in the NFL. Simmons is certainly talented and has been playing at a high level.
This past season, Simmons helped the Tennessee Titans as he recorded 7.5 sacks and 54 combined tackles last season.
The camp is being held over two days, one on July 7 for kids aged seven through 12 and then also on July 8 for kids aged 13 through 18.
