As Zach Arnett and the Mississippi State football team start preparing for the 2023 MSU football season, let’s take a look at some of the Bulldogs’ toughest games this year.

It’s time to start preparing for the upcoming Mississippi State football season. The Bulldogs are entering into their first season with Zach Arnett at the helm and they’ve got a pretty intriguing schedule.

While not as daunting as last year’s slate (a season in which the MSU football team finished at 9-4), Arnett is a first-time head coach and the Bulldogs get some of their toughest games early on in the season.

Let’s start looking around at Mississippi State’s five toughest games in 2023. Starting with No. 5 and then working our way to the most difficult.

No. 5: Mississippi State football vs. Texas A&M Aggies

I’m not entirely sure what to make of the Texas A&M Aggies and exactly how challenging this game will be.

While there’s a lot of talent sitting in College Station and we’re truly not that far removed from when Jimbo Fisher won a national title at Florida State, A&M has underachieved considerably and really isn’t a notably better program than Mississippi State has been in recent years.

MSU is 5-2 against A&M dating back to 2016. This series has been pretty one-sided in recent seasons.

And so, there are plenty of precedents for MSU fans to expect that the Bulldogs will win this game. But this contest is on the road at Kyle Field. And MSU has a first-year head coach in Zach Arnett.

Wins shouldn’t be seen as a given going into 2023.

But, well, worth noting that the Aggies have a rather dysfunctional staff and this contest falls in mid-November. So, if A&M has a rough year, there’s a good chance the Aggies would have already imploded by this point in the season.
