Mississippi State Baseball vs. Tennessee (Game 3): Highlights, final score, and more
By Landon Young
The Mississippi State baseball team was defeated by the Tennessee Volunteers in the third game of this weekend’s SEC series.
The Diamond Dawgs lost tonight’s matchup by a score of 13-2 in seven innings.
Today’s game was played at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Here are my early post-game thoughts:
Mississippi State Baseball has to be considering making some changes to the coaching staff.
You can’t give up 33 runs in an SEC weekend’s series and expect everything to stay the same.
There is something wrong with Mississippi State’s pitching staff, and until it gets fixed, Mississippi State Baseball won’t be in the position to make it far in the postseason, much less win SEC games.
I would say Scott Foxhall has to be concerned with what he’s seen this season.
I feel bad for our batting lineup this 2023 college baseball season.
The Mississippi State batting lineup this year has been solid enough to win games. Today, they struggled more than usual, but the lineup has to be frustrated with pitching this year.
This has sort of been the story all season long, but Mississippi State’s bats have seemed to produce even in big moments.
Their bats have actually kept them in games they were never supposed to be in the first place.
I can’t help but wonder how good this year’s Mississippi State baseball team would be if they had some solid pitchers.
Is there any hope to make the postseason?
I do not have a definite answer for you, but at this point, it does not look likely.
The Diamond Dawgs really need to make a statement starting with the last three SEC series of the season.
After that, the Bulldogs must make something happen in the 2023 SEC Tournament.
Next on the schedule, the Mississippi State Baseball team will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in game one of next weekend’s series starting Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. CT/7:00 p.m. ET.
