By Landon Young
Former Mississippi State Football defensive tackle, Cameron Young, has been drafted as the No. 123 overall pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 4th Round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Cameron Young makes yet another Mississippi State Bulldog drafted in this year’s NFL Draft.
The Seattle Seahawks have added a great defensive tackle to their defense for the 2023 NFL season.
Cameron Young was born in Crosby, Mississippi about four hours south of Starkville, Mississippi, where the football star would find himself playing college football.
Young graduated from Franklin County High School in 2018, and he went on to play at Mississippi State University later that year where he was redshirted.
Cameron Young had an excellent year in 2022 when he started as a defensive tackle in all 13 games including Mississippi State Football’s ReliaQuest Bowl in January of 2023.
Mississippi State football finished the 2022 college football season 8-4 and all four of Mississippi State’s losses could not be blamed on the defense. Much of that had to do with the dominant performance of Cameron Young and the defensive line.
Many SEC teams’ offenses struggled to move the ball down the field on Mississippi State’s defense. This not only says a lot about his skills but his leadership that he had on the entire defense.
Cameron Young finished the 2022 college football season with 37 total tackles, 10 solo tackles, and 1 sack.
Young’s presence on the defensive line is what truly made a difference for the Bulldogs.
Cameron Young played at Mississippi State for five years. Young redshirted his freshman year (2018), and he began seeing a good bit of playing time in 2019.
In 2019, Young played in eight games for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He continued being an excellent “off the bench” player for Mississippi State’s defense until 2022 when he started for Zach Arnett and his defense in every single game.
Good luck to Cameron Young and the Seattle Seahawks next season.
