The Mississippi State Baseball team will be headed to Knoxville, Tennessee to face off against the No. 24 Tennessee Volunteers in a three-game series after defeating the Ole Miss Rebels on Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs could really find themselves back on track with a win tonight and a series win this weekend.
After what seemed like a dominating performance from Mississippi State Baseball’s pitching staff on Tuesday night, the Bulldogs hope to roll that momentum over into Knoxville, Tennesee this weekend.
The Tennessee Volunteers are currently 27-14 overall in the 2023 college baseball season.
The Volunteers are 8-10 in the conference, and they are coming off a series sweep vs. the No. 2 Vanderbilt Commodores last weekend as well as a dominating midweek win vs. the Bellarmine Knights by a score of 19-1.
The Tennesee Volunteers are one of the hottest teams in college baseball right now, but the Mississippi State Bulldogs hope to get their name in that mix this weekend by pulling off an upset.
What has to happen for the Bulldogs to pull off the upset? The Mississippi State pitching staff and bullpen must come ready to play all three games to the best of their ability.
Here is a look at the three starters for this weekend’s series vs. the Tennessee Volunteers:
Friday Night – Mississippi State Baseball Starting Pitcher – Cade Smith
Cade Smith has been filling the duties for Mississippi State Baseball on Friday night, and there will be no change to that this weekend.
Smith has done pretty well considering his last few outings. Even with a loss at Auburn, he held the Tigers to only two runs.
Saturday – To Be Determined
It is always fun to see TBD back in the lineup (insert sarcastic tone).
With injuries and other things going on inside the bullpen, we will have to wait and see what happens on Saturday.
Sunday – Jurrangelo Cijntje
Jurrangelo Cijntje has provided the Diamond Dawgs with some excellent Sunday play, but we have to know when his time is up and when to bring in the next guy from the bullpen.
