The Mississippi State baseball team defeated the Ole Miss Rebels in the annual Governor’s Cup on Tuesday night at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi.

The Diamond Dawgs won tonight’s Governor’s Cup by a score of 2-1.

Mississippi State’s winning run came from Dakota Jordan on a strikeout runner that reached first base.

Here are my early post-game thoughts:

Tonight was not your typical win from the Mississippi State Baseball team.

Typically, the Mississippi State Bulldogs Baseball team wins games because of their bats, but tonight was a little abnormal.

The Diamond Dawgs have been known, this season, for winning games by scores in the double digits (for both teams).

The pitching for tonight’s matchup between the Diamond Dawgs and the Rebels was excellent on both sides.

Chris Lemonis was not happy about Tyson Hardin’s performance in the 8th inning.

The Ole Miss Rebels gained a runner in the bottom of the 8th inning and had an opportunity to tie the game after a tough outing from Tyson Hardin.

Lemonis took a visit to the mound after a wild pitch caused the Ole Miss runner to enter scoring position.

Luckily, KC Hunt came in and got the final two outs.

Mississippi State has dominated the Ole Miss Rebels this sports year.

Whenever you have an Egg Bowl victory, both basketball wins, and three out of four vs. your in-state rival all in one sports year that is pretty dominant. The Mississippi State Bulldogs truly run the state of Mississippi at the moment.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs hope to roll this momentum into next year’s school calendar when the Rebels head to Starkville for the Egg Bowl.

The Mississippi State Baseball team will take on the Tennesse Volunteers in a weekend SEC road series starting Friday night at 6:00 p.m. CT/7:00 p.m. ET. This series could really turn the season around.
