Mississippi State Football: Schedule and predictions for the first six games of the 2023 season
By Landon Young
The Mississippi State Football team is set to take on another exciting season this upcoming fall.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs have a first-year head coach in Zach Arnett after the sudden passing of Mike Leach.
Many Bulldog fans believe Zach Arnett can continue the momentum that Mike Leach had going and get the job done for the Bulldogs in year one.
What does the job look like? Well, let’s take look at the first six games of the 2023 Mississippi State Football schedule.
September 2: Southeastern Louisiana at Mississippi State Football
The Mississippi State Bulldogs will start the 2023 season with three straight home games starting with the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. I like the Bulldogs to win big, 52-6.
September 9: Arizona at Mississippi State
Prediction: After going to Arizona last year, the Wildcats will make their visit to Starkville on the second week of the season.
I like the Bulldogs to win comfortably, 35-17.
September 16: LSU at Mississippi State
Prediction: Whew. This could be one rowdy game at Davis Wade Stadium in Week 3.
I could see this game going either way, but I like the home-field advantage for the Bulldogs.
Give me Mississippi State to win, 27-21.
September 23: Mississippi State at South Carolina
Prediction: I expect this to be Mississippi State’s first loss of the season. This game has the potential to be a thriller, but I think the Bulldogs come up short.
Shane Beamer had the South Carolina Gamecocks playing really good ball at the end of last season.
I don’t expect that momentum to die out. Gamecocks win, 30-24.
September 30: Alabama at Mississippi State
Prediction: It is never easy having to play Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide every single year. I cannot pick the Dawgs to win this one, but I really think Mississippi State could finally make this game interesting for the first time in years.
Alabama wins, 35-27.
October 7: Western Michigan at Mississippi State
Prediction: Mississippi State gets back on track after losing two straight. 42-17, Bulldogs.
