The Mississippi State baseball team lost game one vs. the Auburn Tigers, 2-1. The Diamond Dawgs won game two by a score of 11-10. Game three was decided by a score of 12-11, and the Auburn Tigers had a walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Mississippi State had every chance to put today’s rubber match away and go back to Starkville with another SEC series win, but the Bulldogs came up short after giving up four runs in the sixth inning and 3 runs in the eighth inning.

Here are my early post-game thoughts:

Mississippi State Baseball has to figure out how to put games away.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs were up 7-0 in today’s game vs. the Auburn Tigers.

When teams are up by seven runs, they should be able to put those games away.

Is coaching a piece of the problem for this year’s Mississippi State Baseball team?

In the bottom of the 8th inning, the Bulldogs had a chance to really take control and command of the game, but after leaving pitching in too long, the Tigers found themself on top.

One of the biggest difficulties of coaching in baseball is when or when not to take certain pitchers out of the game.

Today, it seemed obvious to go ahead and put Aaron Nixon in the game to start the bottom of the 8th inning.

This team has shown signs that they can be a top-25 college baseball team.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have shown that they can compete with the best of the best this year, but they are still missing something. I believe if the Bulldogs were to fix problems at the mound, they could be one of the most dangerous teams in the country.

The Diamond Dawgs will face off against the Ole Miss Rebels in the Governor’s Cup on Tuesday, April 25th at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi.
