The Mississippi State baseball team defeated the Auburn Tigers in Game Two on Saturday afternoon. The Diamond Dawgs lost game one of this weekend’s series by a score of 2-1, and the Dawgs won tonight’s, 11-10.

Mississippi State had to win tonight to have a shot at taking the series from the Auburn Tigers. Tomorrow’s game (rubber match) will have its first pitch at 1:00 p.m. CT/2:00 p.m. ET.

Here are my early post-game thoughts:

Whew… Mississippi State Baseball truly makes fans’ heart rates skyrocket.

Mississippi State Bulldogs fans can never be too sure, can they? No sir.

After leading 11-3, the Auburn Tigers managed to make it a one-score game in the bottom of the 9th inning.

The Diamond Dawgs were 3 outs from winning the game 11-3 but after a disastrous performance at the mound, the Bulldogs gave up 7 runs.

Luckily, Aaron Nixon came in and finally, put the game away.

The bullpen has to figure out how to close games out.

The Diamond Dawgs will struggle to close games out all season if the pitching continues to be the way that it is.

At times, we have seen this team pitch well, but not even slightly close enough to win the SEC much less another national championship.

The bullpen must get better if the Bulldogs want any shot at turning this season around.

Mississippi State Baseball could really turn around its season with a win tomorrow.

Even with all the negativity mentioned above, the Bulldogs have a chance to take the series from the Auburn Tigers tomorrow.

If the Mississippi State baseball team manages to win tomorrow afternoon, the Diamond Dawgs will have won three straight SEC series. It is never easy to win in the SEC, and tomorrow could change the trajectory of Mississippi State’s season.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will take on the Auburn Tigers in the rubber match of this weekend’s series tomorrow at 21:00 p.m.
