The Mississippi State basketball team defeated the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday in a huge SEC basketball matchup at Humphrey Coliseum. What does that win mean for the Bulldogs?

The Mississippi State basketball team has started to get hot as the regular season approaches closure. Recently, the Mississippi State Bulldogs took down top-25 SEC opponent, the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday, February 25th. In a game where the Bulldogs led for the majority of regulation, the Aggies made a last-minute effort but could not leave Starkville, Mississippi with a win. Mississippi State basketball now has an overall record of 19-10, and they have an SEC record of 7-9.

Who is left on Mississippi State’s basketball schedule?

The Mississippi State Bulldogs only have two more basketball games left on the regular season schedule, and those games will take place this week. The Bulldogs face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks this Tuesday at the Humphrey Coliseum. This game is huge because, after Saturday’s win vs. a Quad 1 opponent (Texas A&M), the Bulldogs have a really great shot at making the NCAA Tournament. A win vs. the South Carolina Gamecocks would almost certainly place them in the Big Dance.

Next on the schedule are the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Mississippi State Bulldogs will head to Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, March 4th, to take on the Commodores in their last game of the 2022-2023 regular season. If the Bulldogs come out of this last week 2-0, I expect to see them land their shot at winning a national championship amongst 63 other college basketball teams.

Do the Bulldogs need a big run in the SEC tournament?

No, not really. The only way the Mississippi State Bulldogs need a big run in the SEC tournament is if they drop both of these final two regular season games. If the Bulldogs finish the season with an overall record of 21-10 (9-9), I can’t see why the Bulldogs would need SEC tournament wins.

All in all, Chris Jans is bringing excitement back to the Mississippi State basketball program.
