Mississippi State Baseball vs. Arizona State: Series highlights and more

Mississippi State's head coach Chris Lemonis has a tough task ahead of him this week. He wants his team to play good baseball, but he's love for the Bulldogs to save their best baseball for the NCAA Tournament, not the SEC Tournament.chris lemonis

The Mississippi State baseball team took the series win from the Arizona State Sun Devils after winning two out of the three baseball games this weekend. Mississippi State needed to continue the momentum of series wins after winning the weekend before, but this weekend’s competition was much tougher than the weekend before.

Here are my early post-game thoughts:

I was wrong about Mississippi State baseball having to win game one.

After watching game one of this weekend’s series vs. the Arizona State Sun Devils, I was fairly confident that the Diamond Dawgs would not be able to pull out a series win. Chris Lemonis and the Diamond Dawgs proved me wrong.

This series win was a confidence booster for the Diamond Dawgs.

The Arizona State Sun Devils came into this weekend as an undefeated college baseball team that was looking to make it far in this year’s tournament, and they still have a good chance of doing so. The Sun Devils seemed to be the favorite going into this weekend’s series, but the Diamond Dawgs proved everyone wrong.

So, why did Chris Lemonis and the Diamond Dawgs need this series’ win? Because people were starting to become concerned with whether or not this team would return to college baseball as one of the premier programs. I think this weekend’s series win made people believe again.

Colton Ledbetter’s grand slam might still be falling.

Mississippi State baseball’s batts were on fire this weekend (not that they haven’t been hot in all the games they have played this year). Colton Ledbetter finished Sunday’s game with two at batts with two hits, 4 RBIs, and a grand slam. Ledbetter is starting to make a name for himself in the Mississippi State baseball lineup, and I expect Coach Chris Lemonis to start using him more often.
