No. 7 Mississippi State (2-1, 0-0 SEC) bounced back after Sunday’s tough loss to No. 10 TCU by knocking off 3rd-ranked Texas Tech (0-3, 0-0 Big 12), 11-5, on Monday. With the win, the Bulldogs capped off a solid 2-1 weekend against three top-10 teams.

D1Baseball‘s Kendall Rogers was impressed with State’s performance in Arlington.

With two starting pitchers (Will Bednar and Eric Cerantola) out for the weekend, Chris Lemonis turned to true freshman Jackson Fristoe to toe the rubber in the concluding game in the State Farm College Baseball Showdown. Fristoe gave up no runs and no hits while walking three and striking out four in 3.0 innings.

Rowdey Jordan and Luke Hancock continued their impressive weekends at the plate, with Jordan going 2-5 with 3 RBIs and Hancock going 2-4 with a 2-run no-doubter to right field. Jordan’s RBI triple in the ninth started the five-run frame. Scotty Dubrule and Josh Hatcher also added two hits apiece.

It was a back-and-forth game through the middle innings until the Bulldogs scored the final six runs. The game was tied at 5 through six innings of play, but a run in the eighth and five in the ninth allowed Mississippi State to cruise to the win.

Carlisle Koestler (1-0) grabbed the win in relief, going 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while walking two and striking out six. KC Hunt and Spencer Price pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to secure a win.

Mississippi State will be back at Dudy Noble Field for the first time in almost a year on Wednesday night, hosting Jackson State at 4 PM CT. Tulane will visit the Dude for a weekend series, which starts on Friday at 4 PM CT.
