Mississippi State Basketball: Lady Bulldogs Dominant in Win vs. New Orleans

Nikki McCray-Penson notched her second win as the Mississippi State Basketball coach as the #6 Lady Bulldogs blew the Privateers out of the water and the Hump tonight. I predicted the final score would be 105-55, and the final score was 105-51.

Mississippi State is the first squad to score 100 points on New Orleans since Lamar defeated them 100-77 during the 2017-18 season. The Lady Bulldogs trailed for only 18 seconds in the game. After taking the lead for the second time, the blowout was on.

Dominant Performance From Start to Finish

Bulldogs fans were not able to watch the Lady Bulldogs defeat Jackson State. We received a treat tonight via SECNetwork+. Jessika Carter led the way with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

She was nearly unstoppable in the paint. Mississippi State scored 72 points in the paint, and those points alone were enough to send New Orleans home with a loss.

JaMyah Mingo-Young was nearly perfect from the field on her way to scoring a career-high 18 points. Mingo-Young flexed her muscles as she converted two and one opportunities.

All-SEC 1st team pick Rickea Jackson had a slow start but heated up in the third quarter. Jackson had 16 points for the game. She only made one three, but it was a beautiful shot that hit nothing but the net.

Yeminyah Morris also used her size to muscle her way to 14 points. New Orleans had no answer for her height as Morris laid the ball up with ease.

Mississippi State wasn’t as efficient shooting the three tonight, but they didn’t need to as they made 62% of their shots. The defense did its job forcing 16 turnovers on the night. Other players scoring were Myah Taylor (5), Madison Hayes (8), Aliyah Matharu (8), Sidney Cooks (9), and Caterrion Thompson (6).

Mississippi State hits the road to take on South Florida on December 5. The Lady Bulls are 1-1 on the season and played #4 Baylor tough before falling 67-62. This will be the first true test for Coach McCray-Penson’s team.
