Mississippi State Football: Homecoming at the Half
Mike Leach leads his Bulldogs today as it is Homecoming in Starkville. Coach Leach is looking for his first home win. Coach Leach is 2-0 against Vanderbilt as the offensive coordinator for Kentucky. He should move to 3-0 after today. It is time for kickoff so let’s see how our Bulldogs will do today.
Offensive Recap
The Mississippi State Bulldogs needed a fast start, and the defense helped the offense deliver. On the first pass of the day by Vanderbilt, Colin Duncan made a beautiful one-handed interception. Will Rogers then lead the offense to the first Bulldog score of the day with a six-yard touchdown pass to Osirus Mitchell.
On the Bulldogs’ second possession, Rogers took the Bulldogs down the field with a mix of short passes and tosses to the running backs. Dillon Johnson scored his second touchdown of the season to put the Bulldogs up 14-0 with the extra point.
The Bulldogs were denied a third straight touchdown as Marks was stopped short on third and one. Ruiz would extend the Bulldog lead with a 25-yard FG. The Bulldogs lead 17-0 at halftime.
Will Rogers is off to a smoking start as he is 24-30, 162 yards, and a touchdown.
Malik Heath leads in receiving with 5 catches for 40 yards, followed by Osirus Mitchell with 4 for 32 yards and a touchdown.
Defensive Recap
The defense has pitched a shutout so far. Colin Duncan’s pick helped give the Bulldog offense a short field. After that, the defense has just been downright nasty against Vanderbilt. The Bulldogs have also forced a turnover on downs.
Vanderbilt made its way to the red zone, but the Bulldog defense made a stand. Vanderbilt was denied a touchdown as Marcus Murphy slammed a ball carrier for a loss. Aaron “Creme” Brule and Emerson combined for a tackle for loss, and Erroll Thompson stopped the scoring threat with an interception!
Marcus Murphy and Aaron Brule’ have 6 tackles each.
Erroll Thompson and the now ejected (targeting) Shawn Preston Jr. have5 tackles.
