Possible NFL Destinations for Kylin Hill

The Kylin Hill saga at Mississippi State is finally over. After weeks of reporters asking Mississippi State Football Head Coach Mike Leach about Hill’s Status, an announcement was finally made. Hill’s future at Mississippi State has been cloudy since his absences from the lineup against Texas A&M and Alabama.

When asked to update Hill’s status, Leach would reply that he heard Hill had opted-out to prepare for the NFL Draft or that he had not talked to Hill. Now that we have an official announcement, Kylin Hill, Coach Leach, and Mississippi State Football can move forward.

This was definitely not the senior season Hill, Bulldog fans, or NFL Scouts expected. There were glimpses of the receiving threat that Hill could be in the LSU and Kentucky games. I will not speculate as to why Hill is opting out, but instead, I will discuss the possible NFL destinations for Kylin Hill now that he has officially declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are my #1 ideal fit for Kylin in the NFL. He won’t be expected to be a starter on day one because the Patriots have a committee approach. Bill Belichick loves multi-dimensional running backs, and that is what Kylin Hill brings to the table. The Patriots currently have Damien Harris, James White, Rex Burkhead, and J.J. Taylor.

Hill also returned kicks in high school, although he didn’t play special teams at all in college. If he does go to the Patriots, he will have to play some special teams. Hill reminds me of Brandon Bolden, who won two Super Bowls playing running back and special teams for the Patriots.  NFL Mock’s Dan Schmelzer has the Patriots taking Minnesota’s Mohamed Ibrahim in the 4th Round. Hill could flourish once he learns the Patriot Way.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars could definitely use the skillset of Kylin Hill in their backfield. According to ESPN, the Jaguars have the second-worst rushing attack in the NFL, with only 676 yards rushing. Hill would be reunited with another former Leach QB protege and Mississippi native in Gardner Minshew. After releasing Leonard Fournette, the Jaguars need to add to their running back room.

NFL Mocks has the Jaguars taking another Mississippi native in the 3rd Round in Kenny Gainwell out of Memphis. Gainwell is a dynamic playmaker as he has a similar skillset to Hill. Gainwell was used as a true run/pass tailback. That is what so many wanted to see from Hill in the Air Raid Offense.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Hill is also a possible fit for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is another situation where Hill would not be expected to start or play right away. The Bucs have Ronald Jones II, Leonard Fournette, the ageless wonder Lesean McCoy, and 2020 3rd round pick Ke’Shawn Vaughn out of Vanderbilt.

Hill could also learn a lot from being in the backfield with a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Tom Brady. NFL Mocks has the Bucs taking Clemson running back Travis Etienne in the 1st Round. If I could make the Bucs pick, I would select a quarterback to replace Brady when he retires.

One Maroon Nugget to add here as Bruce Arians was a former offensive coach at Mississippi State. He was on the Mississippi staff at the time of Big Maroon Upset, where Mississippi State defeated Alabama 6-3. Could the Mississippi State connection land Hill in Tampa Bay? It’s possible.

Los Angeles Rams

My last possible destination for Kylin Hill would be a dream come true for fans who love Mississippi football players. The Los Angeles Rams running back room includes Darrell Henderson, Malcolm Brown, Xavier Jones, Raymond Calais, and Cam Akers. Henderson and Akers are both from Mississippi. Akers and Hill were in the same senior class.

Akers and Hill were the top two running backs to come out of Mississippi in 2017. How cool would it be for three of the best high school running backs to come out of the state of Mississippi to end up playing on the same NFL team? The Rams are my #1 “I’m From The Sip? fantasy team for Hill.

Other Teams Where Hill Could Find a Home

These are just a few of the teams where I feel Kylin Hill could fit in the NFL and to add in the Mississippi nostalgia if he were to find himself on the Rams. There are several other teams where Hill could find playing time right away. Those teams are the Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, and the Washington Football Team.
