Mississippi State Football: Bulldogs Blanked by the Tide
Mississippi State Football: Bulldogs Can’t Find Offense Against Alabama
It was that kind of night for the Mississippi State Football team against Alabama. The Tide rolled to a 27-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 41-0 victory over the Bulldogs. Mac Jones threw for 291 yards and 4 touchdowns on 24-31 passing.
Jones found Devonta Smith for all four of his touchdowns as he ran wild and free through the Bulldog secondary. Smith had 12 receptions for 203 yards and the above-mentioned touchdowns. Najee Harris ran for 119 yards.
Will Reichard kicked two field goals. Patrick Surtain Jr. finished off the scoring by returning an interception for a touchdown.
The Mississippi State offense was unable to find any consistency for the fourth straight game. To make matters worse, KJ Costello was knocked out early in the first half. Will Rogers took over but by then Alabama was comfortably ahead. Mississippi State did not earn a first down until early in the second quarter. It was that kind of night for the Bulldogs
Rogers did move the offense better than Costello so that is one positive for the Bulldog Offense. The Bulldogs host Vanderbilt next week in Starkville, so maybe facing a notoriously bad team could be the cure for the Bulldog offense, at least for one week. The Commodores were blown out by Bulldog in-state rival Ole Miss
Mississippi State Football: Offensive Grade
On Halloween night there were no treats for the Mississippi State Offense. The Bulldogs went three and out on their first three drives. The Bulldogs had possession of the ball for just over seven minutes on those drives.
The Alabama defense followed suit like every opponent has by employing a rush three and drop eight zone defense. Alabama did add a wrinkle by adding a blitzer on third downs to add pressure to an already overmatched Bulldog Offense.
Will Rogers was 24-37, 147 yards, and two interceptions. Jo’Quavious Marks was the leading rusher and receiver with 8 carries for 38 yards and 9 catches for 32 yards.
Mississippi State Football: Defensive Grade
The Bulldog defense held Alabama to a field goal on the first offensive drive for the Tide. The tide would find its footing as Mac Jones connected with Devonta Smith all night long. The Bulldog defense still played with grit and toughness as they did not allow Alabama to score a point in the third quarter.
Erroll Thompson led the Bulldogs in tackles as he had another double-digit tackle game. Kobe Jones notched his second sack of the season. The Bulldog defense played about as good a game as they could play. They just needed a lot more help from the offense.
