Where do Mississippi State Bulldogs recommend you dine when in town for a game? We asked the question on Twitter and these were some of the most common answers.

Whether you follow the Mississippi State Bulldogs or not, if you are an SEC football fan at some point your travels will probably bring you to Starkville, Mississippi, and one of the best things about going to away games in the SEC is sampling the local food.

With that in mind, we asked fans where they would say the “must eat” restaurants and taverns in the Starkville area would be. Some great feedback came in, with some choices that will have you wishing you lived in town.

Whether you’re looking for a big, hearty sit-down meal, some great tailgate food, or just a good place to gather after the Bulldogs win, these are the places fans say you need to patronize.

Mississippi State Bulldogs top Starkville Eateries

We’ll start off by going all-in for a top-notch meal, and if you want to have a delicious Angus steak piled with lobster, crab, shrimp or other mouth-watering toppings, then you need to head to The Veranda, on Lincoln Green.

This is a full-scale dining experience with a fantastic bar area. FoodRepublic.com said, “The Veranda is the sort of place where current MSU students go when their parents are in town to foot the bill.”  So bring your appetite and some extra cash.

Bringing it down a notch to someplace that’s a little more student-friendly, we’d recommend Strange Brew Coffeehouse to get your game day started. Not only do they have great coffee, but you can get some really interesting variations you definitely won’t find at some of the big chain coffee shops, such as the Capt’n Crunch Latte, the Albino Squirrel or the Sea Turtle Frappe. And be sure to try the cheese bread!

One answer we received multiple times is a staple of Starkville living right down on Main Street, and if it’s an early game and you’re hankering for some loaded breakfast choices then look no further than the Starkville Café.

They don’t have a direct website but you can see breakfast and lunch/sandwich menus here.

“Starkville Café is the only place in town where food and good sweet tea come together to create that social camaraderie. That’s what it is,” said owner John Peeples in an interview with ERA Town & Campus Realty.

Another place that received multiple responses was Oby’s Cajun Restaraunt. While this longtime regular haunt for Starkville residents recently changed owners, the word is that the menu and food quality haven’t changed. So fire up your tastebuds for some incredible jambalaya and homemade red beans and rice, and head on over to Oby’s.

Last on our list will be the place you want to go for pre or post-game libations. STAGgerIN Sports Grill in the Cotton District of Starkville.

This is down-home comfort food and tailgate specialties. Everything from loaded nachos, salads and soups to a huge selection of sandwiches and burgers (including some fantastic freshly cut onion rings), this sports grill has everything you need for a complete game day experience, including a fully-stocked bar and great service.
