Mississippi State football Mock Draft 2020: Predicting Bulldogs landing spots
Cornerback Cameron Dantzler is without a doubt the most NFL-ready Mississippi State player entering the draft this year and was projected to be a mid-2nd round pick originally. Unfortunately, a less than stellar NFL Combine has dropped his stock a bit.
That said, he’s probably starter-ready, and while the first two rounds will probably be dominated by skill players and offensive linemen, Dantzler will become a hot property in the 3rd round.
With proven ability to play both the run and pass (where he really excels) and excellent coverage skills, it’s hard to think Dantzler will fall too far in the 3rd round. Some mock drafts have him going to the Vikings, but after some changes in draft position via a trade with the Buffalo Bills, it will likely be the latter who benefits from grabbing Dantzler.
The Bills will be looking at interior offensive linemen and edge rushers early in the draft, but they can’t ignore their need at corner.
Dantzler excels playing zone defense and has the instincts to react and recover well even if when losing a receiver in man coverage. McDermott’s scheme would be ideal for a tall, long corner like the former MSU star.
