Thanks to Mia Davidson’s 7th inning grand slam, the Mississippi State softball team was able to surge past the Memphis Tigers on the road.

Vann Stuedeman’s Mississippi State softball team (12-4 overall, 0-0 SEC) needed a big play to put the Bulldogs over the Memphis Tigers (5-9 overall, 0-0 AAC) late in the game. And, well, the Bulldogs actually happened to get a couple of big plays in the form of two grand slams tonight. Mississippi State certainly needed both to get the win against the Tigers.

The Bulldogs were able to get the game going on a solid start thanks to a two-run top of the 1st inning, putting MSU ahead 2-0 early on. But thanks to a sloppy bottom of the 2nd inning, Mississippi State found itself down 5-2 heading into the 3rd.

The Mississippi State softball team would go on to strike right back and reclaim its lead just a couple of innings later, however.

In the top of the 4th inning, Fa Leilua hit a grand slam, MSU’s first of the night, to put the Bulldogs up 6-5. Unfortunately for State though, Memphis would go on to tie things up at 6-6 in the 5th inning and then claim a 7-6 lead in the 6th inning.

And suddenly the Mississippi State softball team saw itself down to its final out in the top of the 7th inning, trailing the Memphis Tigers by a single run.

As Mia Davidson stepped up to the plate, the Bulldogs had loaded the bases and just needed a simple, solid hit to get Mississippi State right back into the midst of it all. Davidson would do more than that. Davidson would effectively put an end the game by clearing the bases thanks to a two-out grand slam, putting MSU up 10-7.

The Bulldogs were then able to come out in the bottom half of that inning and get away from the Tigers with a win.
