Joe Moorhead and the Mississippi State football team beat out the Ole Miss Rebels and various other competitors for the services of Fred Peters.

During the early signing period in December, the Mississippi State football team made a solid move the beat out the Ole Miss Rebels on the recruiting front.

Fred Peters, a talented safety from the junior college ranks, selected the Mississippi State Bulldogs over their rival and enrolled with MSU early so he could go ahead and get to Starkville as soon as possible.

But it wasn’t just Ole Miss that Mississippi State beat out for Peters. Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators were also interested in the talented defensive back. Then there was also the UAB Blazers, the Colorado Buffaloes, the Iowa State Cyclones, and the West Virginia Mountaineers that all threw their names in the hat.

Joe Moorhead and the Mississippi State Bulldogs topped them all and Fred Peters ended up coming to join the Mississippi State football team.

Peters weighs in at around 5-foot-10.5 and 200 pounds. He’s not the tallest defensive back out there, but he’s big enough and versatile enough to cover various different wide receivers and still stop running backs and quarterbacks that scramble to escape the pocket.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are losing some key, experienced members from their secondary, so someone with junior college experience should be able to get onto the field sooner rather than later.

Peters just so happens to come to Mississippi State from Jones County Junior College.
