Mississippi State football: Luke Getsy reportedly returning to Green Bay Packers
By Ethan Lee
Joe Moorhead has another vacancy on his coaching staff to replace. The Mississippi State football team needs a new wide receivers coach.
Another assistant coach for the Mississippi State football team is reportedly leaving Starkville, Mississippi. This time, Luke Getsy, the former wide receivers coach for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, is heading on up to the NFL.
According to a report by Steve Robertson of 247Sports, Getsy is truly, officially leaving the Bulldogs.
Interestingly enough, Getsy is about to coach for the team that he was coaching for prior to joining the Bulldogs. The Green Bay Packers, Getsy’s former employer, have come calling and want him to return back to Wisconsin to coach their quarterbacks.
That includes Aaron Rodgers, for those that weren’t sure of the Packers’ current quarterback situation.
This is an incredible opportunity for Getsy, just as coaching under Nick Saban is a remarkable opportunity for Charles Huff, but many Mississippi State football fans may not miss Getsy as much as they will miss Huff. And it is understandable.
Getsy, at times, seemed somewhat out of touch with the Bulldog faithful and their complaints about the offense. Plus, there is the fact that the Bulldogs’ wide receivers didn’t really take a huge step up this past season.
And that is, admittedly, a bit of a concern from Joe Moorhead’s first year as the head coach of the Mississippi State football team.
Regardless, Getsy was a valuable recruiter for the Bulldogs and having continuity with this new coaching staff could have benefitted the Mississippi State football team in the long-run. Now, Moorhead has to find a replacement and bring them in as quickly as possible.
But it’s not impossible for Moorhead to find someone. The Bulldogs have great facilities and are an attractive program with a lot of potential. According to Robertson’s report, MSU may have already locked down some candidates to replace Getsy.
