Former Mississippi State football “superfan” takes to twitter to bash Nick Fitzgerald
By Ethan Lee
Stingray (a former Mississippi State football fan who is now supposedly a Mizzou fan because he got backlash from MSU alumni and fans) took to twitter in an attempt to bash one of the best players in MSU history and in the process drew backlash from MSU alumni and fans.
In a move that seems irrational, Stingray, a former self-proclaimed Mississippi State football “superfan” (the entirety of whom’s notoriety was generated by his “rant” videos on the Paul Finebaum show) has taken to twitter to bash Nick Fitzgerald.
Whether or not he intended this to be a move to endear himself to MSU fans again (if so, it really backfired) or to simply take a shot at Fitzgerald because Fitz is still more beloved by MSU fans than Stingray is, it’s a decision that, logically, doesn’t make sense. Stingray, who previously retired because of too many people online not being so fond of him, made a lot of people online not so fond of him.
Instead of generating any sort of actually positive responses to his tweet about Nick Fitzgerald, all Stingray did was make a group of people that already didn’t like him remember that they didn’t like him.
And so, a man who stopped supporting Mississippi State (as many MSU fans were tired of him representing them) decided to take to twitter to try and engage with the Bulldog faithful by insulting one of the greatest players in MSU history.
In the past, Stingray has received plenty of push back and backlash from general college football fans and then fans of MSU for seemingly representing the university poorly. As a response and in an attempt to get away from trolls and people bashing him, Stingray hung up his mouse keyboard. He appeared to have backed off of he college football scene for good.
But then he decided to return. And now that he’s back, he’s working to become a Mizzou Tigers superfan. He even announced his decision a little while back in yet another “rant” video.
Stingray has drawn plenty of criticism over the years from Mississippi State football fans for some of his antics, and rightfully so. He’s received plenty of push back here on this line of thought, and rightfully so. Hopefully this will be the final major interaction he has with MSU fans online.
