Five Thoughts On Mississippi State Baseball Hiring Chris Lemonis

The 2017-2018 Mississippi State baseball season started with Andy Cannizaro leaving the Bulldogs amidst a scandal. I was in a bar with my fiancee at the time and we discussed the situation. Someone jokingly mentioned that the Bulldogs could still make it to the College World Series and beat Ole Miss a few times.

And, well, that’s exactly what happened.

But then the Bulldogs were left trying to find a new head coach. Gary Henderson did an incredible job picking up the pieces and getting the Mississippi State baseball team to Omaha in a shocking season. MSU overcame all sorts of adversity under Henderson’s watch, but did that mean he was the right person to lead the Bulldogs for the future.

Ultimately John Cohen decided that Chris Lemonis was the right guy. Few of us had heard of Lemonis prior to the hire, but Cohen trusted him and that’s what really mattered.
