Five thoughts on Mississippi State football suspending Nick Fitzgerald

Man, this moment was absolutely gut wrenching and frustrating. It also seemingly came out of nowhere. The Mississippi State football team was, without warning, supposed to kickoff the 2018 season without one of its captains.

The Bulldogs were supposed to get things started without their starting quarterback.

It was weird, it was uncomfortable, but at the end of the day, it didn’t really impact Mississippi State, or Nick Fitzgerald, at all.

Fitz still had a pretty decent year. He had some ups and downs, but (not counting bowl stats) he accumulated 2633 total yards and 27 total touchdowns. That’s not bad considering he only played in 11 games during the regular season and then had to adjust to a new offense after his foot did a 180 in the Egg Bowl.

The suspension hardly slowed him down and now he’s in position to lead Mississippi State to its ninth win of the season.
