What had been a dreadful season for the Mississippi State baseball team, things began to turn around against the Ole Miss Rebels.

On Saturday, I revealed moment number 10 for Mississippi State. Today is moment number nine for the Bulldogs in 2018.

The 2018 Mississippi State baseball season was becoming one to forget. The Bulldogs began their season getting swept by Southern Miss. Right after being swept, Head Coach Andy Cannizaro would be dismissed for an inappropriate relationship with a athletics department staff member.

The Mississippi State baseball team would stumble their way through the first thirty games and entered their series with Ole Miss at 15-15. They were 2-7 in SEC play. Making it to Hoover for the SEC Tournament seemed like a long shot, much less getting to a Regional.

The Ole Miss Rebels entered the series as the number three team in the country, The best most Mississippi State baseball fans were hoping for was their pitching could somehow find a way to give them just enough to win at least one game.

But the Bulldogs found a spark against their arch rival. The Bulldogs would split the double header on Saturday, and then the Mississippi State baseball team won the series finale on Sunday in dramatic fashion. A walk off home run by Luke Alexander in the 11th inning gave the Bulldogs the series win. And to top it off, Luke Alexander would hit a walk off double in the Governor’s Cup to win three of four from the Rebels.

No one at the time knew what the future would hold for the Mississippi State baseball team in 2018. While the series win was nice, most thought it was not going to do too much to help the Bulldogs’ season because of the hole the team had dug itself into. But it turned out to be the catalyst for a season many of us won’t ever forget.
