Mississippi State basketball: Three Wright State players to watch
By Ethan Lee
Which Wright State Raiders should the No. 17 Mississippi State basketball team watch out for when the Bulldogs take the court tonight in Jackson, Mississippi?
The 17th ranked Mississippi State basketball team has one last game to play before Christmas. The Bulldogs will face off against the Wright State Raiders tonight in Jackson, Mississippi in a game that they almost certainly should win big.
MSU is on a roll having won its last seven games. The Bulldogs, at 10-1, are riding plenty of momentum and leading up to the SEC schedule that will start during the second week of the new year. And tonight, the Mississippi State basketball team will get another opportunity to continue building momentum.
To do that though, the Bulldogs must get past Wright State. And to get past Wright State, MSU must watch out for these three Raiders.
Bill Wampler
Bill Wampler is Wright State’s leading scorer. A 6-6, 220 pound forward, Wampler has shown plenty of versatility this season and can reliably shoot threes once he starts getting into a groove. The junior is averaging 14.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. He’s shown the ability to score over 20 points and take over a game on a couple different occasions, so MSU can’t overlook him tonight.
Loudon Love
Loudon Love is a big, physical presence in the paint for the Wright State Raiders. Given that he is 6-9 and 280 pounds, Love is more than comfortable competing against other tall, physical centers and forwards. He averages 14 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Given Love’s size and durability, Abdul Ado might be in for an interesting match up in the paint.
Cole Gentry
While Cole Gentry isn’t a volume shooter, he is a pretty reliable one. Gentry averages 9.4 shots per game, the third most on his team this season, and is making 48.7 percent of them. Gentry is averaging 13.6 points per game while also dishing out a team leading 4 assists per contest.

Mississippi State can’t take this team lightly. The Raiders are far from being a dominant force to be reckoned with, but Wright State has traveled a long way to make this game and they will be playing on the SEC Network. This would be a great opportunity for Wright State to make a statement. The Mississippi State basketball team can’t let them do that. The Bulldogs must win and they must win big.
