For any Mississippi State football fans interested in purchasing tickets, the school is offering a special deal to buy them through the school.

When the Mississippi State football team was selected to play in the Outback Bowl, it was a sign of just how much had changed in almost 20 years. To understand what I am talking about, you have to travel back in time to1999.

At the conclusion of the 1999 season, the Mississippi State football team was 9-2 and just on the outside of the AP Poll Top 10. The Bulldogs were one of the best teams in the country. As a result, it looked like the Bulldogs were a lock to be selected for the Outback Bowl.

However, when the selections were made, the Outback Bowl elected to take a 7-4 Georgia team due to their bigger national brand and larger fan base. The Mississippi State football team was relegated to the Peach Bowl, a lesser bowl at the time, against a 6-5 Clemson team.

The SEC changed the way teams from the conference were selected for bowl games. After the New Year’s Six Bowls select teams, the Citrus Bowl gets the first pick of teams. Then the Outback, Gator, Belk, Music City, Liberty, and Texas Bowls have their SEC representative selected by the SEC office.

Once Texas A&M beat LSU this year, the Outback made it clear they wanted the Aggies. But trying to keep the Mississippi State football team from being shafted, the SEC office stepped in and sent the Bulldogs to Tampa.

It is clear the Bulldogs want to make sure the Outback Bowl committee doesn’t get an “I Told You So” moment when it comes to taking the Mississippi State football team. The Bulldogs are offering a special offer to fans to buy tickets through the school.

John Cohen had to lobby hard to ensure the SEC stepped up to bat for the Mississippi State football program. The last thing the school wants is for there to be a bunch of unsold tickets when the school pushed so hard to get to the Outback Bowl.

So this special offer is a great incentive for fans to purchase their tickets through the school. The offer says tickets simply have to be purchased through the school. If you’re a fan wanting points through the Bulldog Club, but you can’t actually make it to the game, there is nothing I have found that says you have to actually use the tickets.

The Mississippi State football program obviously wants to have a good showing to the bowl game. So if you were thinking about going to the game, it makes a lot of sense to take the school up on this offer.
