The 2018 Mississippi State football team had arguably the best defense in the country, and five of those players were named to the AP All-SEC team.

The Mississippi State football team had its ups and downs in 2018, but the one constant throughout the year was a dominant defense. The defensive unit was one of the best, if not the best, in the country.

On Monday, five players from the Mississippi State football team were named to AP All-SEC Team, and all five came from the defensive side of the football. That comes as no surprise to anyone who followed the Bulldogs in 2018.

The Mississippi State football team placed three members of their defensive unit on the first team of the AP All-SEC team. Defensive Tackle Jeffery Simmons, Defensive End Montez Sweat, and Safety Jonathan Abram were the Bulldog representatives.

There were two players to represent the Mississippi State football team on the AP All-SEC Second Team. Linebacker Errol Thompson and Cornerback Cameron Dantzler represented the Bulldogs on the second team.

These honors are much deserved for these Mississippi State football players. The Bulldog defense finished the season number one in the country in scoring defense, giving up just 12 points per game. The Bulldogs were also third in the country in total defense giving up a little over 268 yards per game.

The three players from the Mississippi State football team named to the First Team should hear their names called in the NFL Draft in 2019. Montez Sweat and Jonathan Abram will graduate and likely be drafted very high in the draft, and Jefferey Simmons is expected to declare early and be drafted in the first round.

The Mississippi State football team and their stellar defensive unit will take the field one more time for the 2018 season. The team will travel to the Outback Bowl and take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. It will be the final hurrah for not just one of the best defensive teams in the country, but arguably the best defensive team to ever take the field for the Mississippi State football team.
