It’s Mississippi State football game day: Time for the 2018 Egg Bowl
By Ethan Lee
The Egg Bowl is finally here and the last game day of the 2018 regular season for the Mississippi State football team is upon us.
It’s officially time for the Egg Bowl, folks. The Mississippi State football team will take on the Ole Miss Rebels in the Bulldogs’ annual rivalry game. This is the second-to-last game day of the 2018 Mississippi State football season, but it’s certainly one of the most important games for the Bulldogs.
This isn’t a game that Joe Moorhead can afford to lose. If he wants to have this fanbase truly rally around him the way that it often did for his predecessor, then Moorhead must win this game. Moorhead will get extra love if State wins big.
For MSU to truly dominate this game, the Bulldogs must find a way to exorcise some demons and find an offense on the road. MSU has struggled when it comes to facing SEC teams away from Starkville, Mississippi and so Moorhead must find a way for State’s offense to be productive.
And as Mississippi State’s offense tries to find a way to get moving away from home, the Bulldogs’ must also find a way to slow a terrific Ole Miss offense. There’s quite a few players that could do damage to MSU in this game, so MSU’s vaunted defense must step up and play as it has all season.
This is certainly a winnable game for the Mississippi State football team. The Bulldogs come into this game as a pretty heavy favorite for good reason. MSU’s defense is great and the offense typically does enough to win. Ole Miss has a great offense, but its defense is rather lackluster.
The Bulldogs can’t afford to make mistakes tonight. They made far too many a season ago and we are all way too familiar with how the 2017 Egg Bowl went. Hopefully today, this game will go different from that one. Hopefully we’ll enjoy how the regular season ends tonight. Buckle up, folks, it’s game day.
