Former Ole Miss commit is set to join Mississippi State football team

It wasn’t that long ago that JaVonta Payton was committed to the Ole Miss Rebels. Now, it looks like he’s going to be a Bulldog. Payton announced his commitment to the Mississippi State football team.
It’s Egg Bowl week and the Mississippi State football team has scored first. JaVonta Payton, a highly sought after wide receiver from Northwest Mississippi Community College, has officially declared that he’s interested in coming to Starkville and playing for the Bulldogs.
What makes this commitment even better for Joe Moorhead and company is that on October 22nd, JaVonta Payton decommitted from Ole Miss and was expected by many to commit to Tennessee. Now, it looks like he’s going to play in Maroon and White.
Payton is a talented wide receiver who could theoretically step in next season and make a difference for the Mississippi State football team. He stands at 6-2 and weighs in a 182 pounds. During the 2017 season at Northwest Mississippi Community College, Payton caught 44 passes for 509 yards and 9 touchdowns.
And earlier today, Payton announced his intent to join Joe Moorhead’s Mississippi State football team:
JaVonta Payton is the third wide receiver to commit to Mississippi State as part of the 2019 recruiting class and is the 21st overall commit for Moorhead’s team. Luke Getsy, Mississippi State’s offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach was the man in charge of recruiting Payton to MSU according to 247 Sports.
Along with Mississippi State and Ole Miss, Payton also had offers from Tennessee, North Carolina, Southern Miss, and Middle Tennessee State. The Bulldogs could use some help in improving the passing game moving forward and it looks like Payton will have a role in that.
