Nick Fitzgerald sets Mississippi State football record for rushing touchdowns
By Ethan Lee
Nobody has run for more touchdowns in Mississippi State football history than quarterback Nick Fitzgerald. He’s at the top of the record books there.
Nick Fitzgerald has officially claimed yet another record from the Mississippi State football record books. Against the Arkansas Razorbacks today, Fitzgerald ran for a touchdown and put his name at the top of the record books in the process.
Fitzgerald has gone through a lot in his career and he’s set a ton of records in the process. This is just the latest for the quarterback with a rather complicated legacy in Maroon and White.
While he has struggled to complete passes and hasn’t improved in that regard since his first season as a starter, Nick Fitzgerald has been incredible running the ball throughout the entirety of his career.
In his career, Fitz has run the ball for 3338 yards and 43 touchdowns. He’s on pace to run for more than 1,000 yards again this season, just as he did in 2016 and was on pace to last year until he was ultimately hurt in the first half of the Egg Bowl.
Nick Fitzgerald has done a lot for the Mississippi State football program. He’s dealt with plenty of criticism in his time as the starting quarterback, but few in program history have truly been better than him.
He arrived in Starkville having little actual game experience as a quarterback. He’s never really developed to become a great passer and has struggled in Joe Moorhead’s offense at times this year, but he’s always given everything for the Bulldogs. Fitzgerald has accomplished a lot as the starting quarterback and MSU fans should be grateful that he played for the Bulldogs.
