It’s time for the 2018-2019 Mississippi State basketball season to get going! Vic Schaefer and the No. 6 Mississippi State women’s basketball team play tonight!

The 2018-2019 Mississippi State basketball season is finally upon us. Vic Schaefer and his team that has gone to back-to-back Final Fours will take the court tonight against Southeast Missouri State in Humphrey Coliseum for the first Bulldogs’ basketball game of the season.

Schaefer is entering into his seventh season at the helm in Starkville and he’s hoping for great things for the No. 6 Mississippi State Bulldogs this season. The Bulldogs reached all sorts of unprecedented highs a season ago as they tore through the Southeastern Conference on their way to the Final Four.

The Bulldogs are expected to be great again this season. Teaira McCowan returns from dominating all of her foes in the front court a season ago, looking to continue to develop and become an even better player for MSU during her final season on campus. McCowan was the preseason selection to be the SEC Player of the Year by media members, and she’ll be getting some more help in the front court.

Alongside McCowan now stands graduate transfer Anriel Howard, who joined the Mississippi State basketball program from Texas A&M. Howard had a phenomenal campaign for the Aggies, racking up 20 double-doubles in 2017-2018, and pulling in 12.2 rebounds per game. With McCowan having 29 double-doubles last season and 13.9 rebounds per game, the two are going to be borderline unstoppable this season.

There are few teams that will have the talent and the strength to match up with McCowan and Howard. It’s unlikely that Southeast Missouri State will have enough on its roster to be able to do it.
