The Mississippi State football team had no issue winning on Homecoming as it hosted the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. With Mississippi State’s 45-3 win, the Bulldogs are now bowl eligible.

The Mississippi State football team (6-3 overall, 2-3 SEC) crushed Louisiana Tech (6-3 overall, 4-1 Conference USA) to get the Bulldogs to bowl eligibility in 2018. MSU had no issue doing anything on offense and kept the visiting team of Bulldogs quiet whenever Louisiana Tech tried to get the ball moving.

MSU jumped out to a quick start on offense thanks to multiple connections from Nick Fitzgerald to his tight ends, receivers, and even one of his running backs. On the first drive, Mississippi State only needed four plays to get 70 yards and the Bulldogs capped the drive with a touchdown pass to Stephen Guidry. A 37-yard pass to tight end Justin Johnson helped make the drive happen.

The Mississippi State football team claimed a 7-0 lead.

On Mississippi State’s next drive, the Bulldogs used 8 plays to get 59 yards and drained the clock. This particular drive ended thanks to a 36-yard pass to Deddrick Thomas for yet another touchdown.

With the score, State’s lead expanded to 14-0.

Louisiana Tech would strike back shortly after this, but it wasn’t much. The visiting Bulldogs tacked on a field goal to trim MSU’s advantage to 14-3.

MSU’s third drive of the night had similar results to the first two. Fitzgerald was accurate through the air and dropped a perfectly placed pass into Kylin Hill’s hands for a 23-yard score. Mississippi State stretched its lead out to 21-3 with Hill’s touchdown reception.

Another drive happened and another score for MSU happened, but the hometown Bulldogs were only able to add a field goal on the drive, getting the lead to 24-3. And then to close out the half, Mississippi State added another touchdown, putting the game more than out of reach with a score of 31-3.

In the second half, MSU cruised to a fairly easy win with the huge advantage that the Mississippi State Bulldogs held. State added a few more touchdowns and won 45-3, keeping the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs out of the end zone in the process.

Mississippi State’s defense was great throughout the night. State’s defense held Louisiana Tech to a meager 238 yards of offense, well below its season average. Add in Stephen Adegoke’s pick and you’ve got a phenomenal showing from a stout defense.

The Mississippi State football team needed to carry the momentum over from last weekend’s game against Texas A&M. Louisiana Tech is far from a juggernaut, but this is a solid win for Mississippi State.
