Mississippi State football’s senior quarterback ignored criticism and overcame his struggles to crush Texas A&M tonight.

The Mississippi State football team defeated the Texas A&M Aggies tonight and it was largely due to the incredible performance that Nick Fitzgerald had tonight. Multiple times throughout the evening, Fitzgerald made several big plays and carried MSU past the No. 16 team in the country tonight.

Against one of the best defenses in the country, Fitzgerald completed 14 of his 22 passes for 241 yards and 2 touchdowns. Fitz also ran the ball 16 times for 88 yards and a touchdown, including the dagger to put A&M away.

This was arguably the best performance that Nick Fitzgerald has had this year and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The Bulldogs needed a win against Texas A&M and MSU’s defense kept Kellen Mond from getting any momentum and consistency.

The Mississippi State football team jumped out to a 7-0 lead thanks to Fitzgerald completing a great 25 yard pass to Stephen Guidry. Texas A&M found a way to get back into the game, slowing the Bulldogs’ offense in the second quarter. At halftime, the Bulldogs were down 10-7 to the Texas A&M Aggies.

To get the second half started, the Mississippi State football team scored on the opening drive. Fitzgerald threw another touchdown, this time a 38 yard pass to Osirus Mitchell. Texas A&M made a few drives, but they were only able to get a field goal against Mississippi State’s defense. The Bulldogs held a 14-13 lead over Texas A&M going into the fourth quarter.

Thanks to an 84 yard pass from Fitzgerald to Guidry to end the third, MSU was down to the red zone to start the final quarter of the game. Fitz was able to punch the ball in and extend Mississippi State’s lead to 21-13.

Then, to put the game completely out of reach, Errol Thompson snagged an interception in the end zone and Fitzgerald ran the ball 76 yards for another touchdown.
