Tucker Day and Kody Schexnayder

At some point or another, the Bulldogs’ offense will stall in Baton Rouge. There’s no real shame in that. The Tigers are great on defense and being forced to punt is far from the worst thing that could happen in a college football game.

However, the Mississippi State Bulldogs aren’t exactly amazing on special teams and punting has been weak at times this season. Both Tucker Day and Kody Schexnayder, the Bulldogs’ punters this year, are failing to punt the ball more than 40 yards down the field. Day is getting 39.1 yards per punt and Schexnayder is only managing 36.1 yards per punt.

On the road in Death Valley against the LSU Tigers, MSU can’t afford to botch any punts this weekend. The Tigers are a great team and make few mistakes. State will have to pin the Tigers deep within their own territory as often as possible.
